“Myths vs. Facts” About Medical Cannabis in Texas

Let’s Bust Some Myths
Myth 1: You need a medical marijuana card in Texas.
Fact: Texas uses a digital registry. No card needed, ever. Texas does not make medical cannabis card. If your clinic gave you a card, please know that it is not an official card of Texas. It is a doctor’s note in a card form.
Myth 2: You have to pick up cannabis in person.
Fact: Most dispensaries offer delivery to your home or local pickup sites. Because Texas law does not allow medical cannabis dispensaries to stock medication overnight, you cannot walk into the dispensary same-day to order…except one location. Texas Original’s location in South Austin has same-day purchases. Any other dispensary you walk into to purchase at the point of service a hemp store, not a medical cannabis dispensary.
Myth 3: Cannabis in Texas isn’t “real.”
Fact: Low-THC cannabis is real medicine, real marijuana-derived. It just follows state limits (up to 1% THC by weight). The low-THC is determined by weight. Therefore, in order to get more milligrams of THC into the product, they make the medication, a gummy for instance, bigger.
A Few Bonus Truths:
- You can qualify without trying “every other” med first.
- You don’t need a referral from your primary doctor.
- Having a prescription protects you from criminal charges (when following the law).
