Texas Medical Cannabis Dispensaries:
Where (and How) to Buy, Legally
medical cannabis texas
Texas doesn’t use plastic “medical cards.” Doctors enter your prescription in the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT), and licensed dispensaries verify you and fill it – by pickup or delivery. Below is the simple, patient-friendly way to get your medicine, what to bring, and who’s licensed to dispense in Texas.
Ready for legal relief? Schedule a risk-free online visit and see if you qualify for a Texas medical marijuana prescription today.
How it works (3 steps)
Meet a registered physician (telemedicine is fine). If appropriate, we enter your prescription into CURT. No physical card is issued in Texas. The state does not endorse ANY medical marijuana cards.
Choose a licensed dispensary (see list below). They’ll confirm your CURT prescription at checkout. Texas DPS licensed dispensaries
Pick up or schedule delivery. Most patients use pickup locations; delivery is also available in many areas (details vary by dispensary).
Bring to pickup/delivery: Texas ID, your name & DOB (and sometimes last 5 of SSN) so the dispensary can verify your CURT record.
Licensed dispensaries & access
As of today, Texans are served by licensed dispensing organizations operating pickup and delivery networks statewide. DPS has also opened an application window to add 12 new licenses under HB 46, which will expand access further.
HB 46 permits DPS to license 9 new medical dispensing organizations between October 1 and December 1, 2025, and an additional 3 between December and April 1, 2026.

What you can buy (and limits) under Texas law
Since the induction of TCUP, patients have been able to purchase medical cannabis in the form of edibles. Common edibles that have been sold: gummies, tincture oils, chocolates, beverages, lozenges, and capsules.
Starting Sept. 1, 2026, HB 46 adds new formulations and limits for Texas dispensaries: how Texas measures THC and what formats are allowed:
Package/device cap: up to 1 gram of THC per package or device.
Non-smoked inhalation allowed (e.g., medical vapor or aerosol devices when medically appropriate); combustible smoking remains prohibited.
Supply & refills: prescriptions can cover up to a 90-day supply with refills as permitted. Texas Legislature OnlineNational Law ReviewTexas Cannabis Policy Center
In other words, stronger product labels, clearer dosing, and (when clinically appropriate) rapid-onset non-smoked inhalation options your doctor can direct – while keeping Texas’ no-smoking rule. National Law Review

How to order (checklist)
Your prescription is already in CURT (we do this during or immediately after your visit).
Go to your preferred dispensary’s website, create an account to order your medication, and select pickup or delivery. (Delivery may have a minimum order.)
At pickup/delivery, bring government-issued ID, such as driver's license. Staff verify your CURT record and dispense.
Standard Labeling: Dispensed products are labeled to help law enforcement confirm the patient’s legal right to possess low-THC cannabis.. Texas DPS Law Enforcement

Chronic pain, traumatic brain injury (TBI), Crohn’s/IBD, terminal illness, hospice/palliative care, plus select research-program conditions.
What are “satellite” dispensary location, and will they cut my drive time?
Yes, that’s the goal. Texas is rolling out Department-approved satellite locations run by licensed dispensing organizations. Each region can open one satellite at a time until every region has coverage. These sites can securely store medical cannabis so your CURT prescription can be filled closer to home, reducing long drives. Availability, hours, and inventory vary by dispensary. Check your preferred dispensary’s Locations page and select Pickup at checkout. (Delivery will still be available in many areas.)
Stay up to date (these will expand over the coming months):
Before each order, peek at your dispensary’s Locations page—new satellites could appear as they go live.
Optional: join your dispensary’s email/text alerts and follow their social updates for new pickup spots.
What this means for you:
Shorter drives as satellites roll out region by region
Real inventory on site (securely stored) for faster pickups
More pickup windows - with delivery still an option where offered
