👀 Texas Medical Marijuana Program Expansion Only Days Away

Texas medical marijuana is expanding on Sept 1 under the state Compassionate Use Program (CUP). Here’s who qualifies and how to pre-schedule your telehealth evaluation with Floweret MD.

Floweret MD is a Texas-licensed, telehealth-only clinic. We provide state-wide medical marijuana evaluations and prescriptions under the Texas CUP. We do not sell or ship cannabis products.

🧐 What’s changing on Sept 1 (Texas medical cannabis program)

Beginning Sept 1, more Texans may qualify for the Texas medical cannabis program. Newly included categories:

  • Chronic pain

  • Crohn’s disease / inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)

  • Hospice / palliative care

If you’ve been treated for one of these conditions and want a legal pathway to marijuana-derived THC options in Texas, pre-scheduling ensures you’re ready on Day 1.

🙋‍♂️ Do I qualify for the Texas Compassionate Use Program?

Eligibility is determined during a medical marijuana evaluation by a Texas-licensed clinician who reviews your diagnosis, history, and goals. An evaluation doesn’t guarantee approval, but it lets us confirm Texas CUP eligibility and discuss safe, legal options that fit your needs.

👉  If you’re unsure, start with our Qualifying Conditions page and free downloadable Texas Medical Cannabis Guidebook for background before your visit.

👩‍⚕️ How to pre-schedule your telehealth evaluation (quick steps)

  1. Reserve your appointment for Sept 1 or later:
Book your Floweret MD telehealth visit

  2. Complete intake forms so your doctor can review records in advance (diagnoses, meds, prior treatments).

  3. Video or Phone call visit with a Texas medical marijuana doctor to confirm eligibility, discuss forms, dosing, and next steps.

  4. If approved, your TCUP prescription is entered into the state system so you can order from a medical cannabis licensed Texas dispensary.

🤓 What forms are allowed in Texas CUP?

Beginning Sept 1, Texas CUP will be allowed to sell vaporizers, inhalers, patchers, suppositories, and lotions to go along with their edibles (tinctures, gummies, beverages, chocolates, and lozenges).  Your doctor and pharmacist will guide you on legal formats and what’s in stock when you fill your prescription.

💵 Costs & insurance

Texas insurers do not cover medical marijuana evaluations or products because cannabis is still a Schedule I product at the federal level. Most medical dispensaries offer loyalty rewards, first-time discounts, and offers throughout the year.

❓FAQs: Texas Medical Marijuana (CUP)

Who qualifies for Texas medical marijuana after Sept 1?

Newly eligible categories include chronic pain, Crohn’s disease/IBD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and hospice or palliative care under the Texas Compassionate Use Program. Current qualified conditions include seizures, cancer, Autism, Parkinson's, MS, ALS, dementias, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, neurodegenerative disorders, and more. A full list of conditions is here: https://floweretmd.com/qualifying-conditions/

How soon can I order if I’m approved?

For upcoming qualifying conditions, you can order on or after Sept 1, once your Texas CUP prescription is active. For patients with a current qualified condition, prescriptions are entered during or immediately after your visit, and take effect immediately.

Does Floweret MD sell cannabis?

No. We are a telemedicine clinic providing evaluations and, when appropriate, Texas medical marijuana prescriptions through the TCUP. You’ll purchase from a licensed Texas medical dispensary.

How do I prepare for a Texas medical marijuana visit?

Bring a Texas photo ID (or proof of Texas residency if you have out-of-state ID) and any records that confirm your diagnosis (clinic notes, imaging, medication list). Think about your goals – pain levels, sleep, function – and past treatments you’ve tried. During your telehealth evaluation, a Texas-licensed physician will confirm CUP eligibility, discuss non-smoked options (tinctures, capsules, topicals), and outline dosing guidance if appropriate. If approved, your THC prescription is entered in CURT so you can order from a licensed Texas medical dispensary.

Is an evaluation a guarantee of approval?

No. Eligibility is determined by a Texas-licensed clinician under Texas medical marijuana regulations and clinical best practices. At Floweret MD, patients who do not qualify are immediately refunded their credit card hold.
